BELLE GLADE — A 24-year-old West Palm Beach man was killed early today in a wrong-way crash on Southern Boulevard near Belle Glade that left the other driver critically injured, police said.
Lon’Quinten McFadden was “improperly traveling” in a 2020 Chevy Malibu eastbound in the westbound lanes of State Road 80 (Southern Boulevard) east of Hatton Highway near Belle Glade at about 6:38 a.m. Aug. 10, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said in a report.
At the same time, Jorge Fermin, 57, of West Palm Beach, was “appropriately driving” west in the westbound lanes in a 2024 Ford 150 pickup, police said.
McFadden failed to yield and drove into the front of Fermin’s pickup, deputies said. McFadden died of his injuries and Fermin was flown to St. Mary’s Medical Center in West Palm Beach for treatment of his critical injuries. Both had to be extracted from their vehicles, Palm Beach County Fire Rescue officials said.
