The Florida Department of Transportation District One will hold a public meeting Aug. 11 in Auburndale to discuss proposed improvements to Havendale Boulevard.

FDOT is proposing improvements along Havendale Boulevard, also known as State Road 544, to extend the service life of the existing roadway and improve safety, according to a news release. The project involves repaving the roadway and modifying existing median openings from U.S. 92 in Auburndale to 8th Street Northwest (U.S. 17) in Winter Haven.

FDOT is also proposing intersection improvements at Derby Avenue and 26th Street and upgrading connectivity between traffic signals, the release said. Additional improvements include updating intersection lighting, updating turn lanes where possible, and upgrading sidewalk connections and curb ramps to comply with current Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

The open-house meeting will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Auburndale Civic Center at 2220 Lake Ariana Blvd.

The public may also join a virtual meeting by computer, tablet or mobile device from 6 to 7 p.m. You can register in advance at fdot.cc/SR-544-VPM.
