Elite 2028 safety to visit Florida State when they face ACC rival

2028 four-star safety Phoenix Evans is gearing up for a busy fall when it comes to taking game visits. In fact, he has nine of them locked in, and the Florida State Seminoles will get one of them, per Kolby Crawford of Noles247.

Evans will make his way to Tallahassee on Nov. 21 when the Seminoles play the NC State Wolfpack. This will be his first visit to FSU since receiving an offer from them on April 22.

The 247Sports composite rankings have Evans slotted as the nation’s No. 185 overall recruit and the No. 13 safety. In the state of Florida, he’s the No. 24 prospect.

The 5-foot-10, 160-pounder has nearly 50 offers on the table, making him one of the most sought-after recruits in the 2028 cycle. However, there is a group of programs that are making the strongest pushes for him, and much like his game visit list, Florida State was mentioned.

“All the schools I’m supposed to be visiting, but mainly Oklahoma, Florida, Notre Dame, FSU, Oregon and UCLA have been reaching out,” Evan said.

In particular, safeties coach Evan Cooper has been driving the bus on FSU’s pursuit of Evans along with a few other staff members. When speaking of Cooper, Evans complemented him on the way he’s pitching the Seminoles.

“What stands out most is his honesty,” said Evans. “He keeps it real and makes me comfortable to be myself around him.”

Evans played his sophomore year at Don Bosco Prep in Ramsey, New Jersey. He produced 39 tackles, two tackles for loss, 11 pass breakups, and one fumble recovery. He transferred ahead of his junior season to IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.
