The Miami Dolphins are hiring Chris Tabor as their new special teams coordinator, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
Tabor, 54, has been a special teams coordinator in the NFL in 14 of the last 15 seasons, which has included stints with four different teams. He most recently spent the 2025 season with the Buffalo Bills. Prior to that, he spent seven seasons with the Cleveland Browns, four with the Chicago Bears, and two with the Carolina Panthers.
In 2023, Tabor served as the Panthers’ interim head coach following the midseason dismissal of Frank Reich. Carolina won one of its six games with Tabor at the helm, finishing that year with an NFL-worst 2-15 record.
The Dolphins will have their third special teams coordinator in as many years after Craig Aukerman served in the role for just one season.
Dolphins punter Jake Bailey set a franchise record in 2025 with a net average of 42.6 yards per punt. Kicker Riley Patterson, who was signed in late August due to a hip injury suffered by Jason Sanders, also set a franchise record by hitting 93.1 percent of his field goal attempts.
Miami was No. 7 in the NFL in yards per punt return and No. 11 in yards per kick return. The Dolphins coverage unit allowed the 16th most punt return yards and 10th most kick return yards.
