The Miami Dolphins’ official fight song – “Miami Dolphins No. 1” – is now streaming on all major platforms through an agreement with Roc Nation.
The song, played after every Dolphins touchdown at their home stadiums for five decades, is now accessible 24/7.
Is this supposed to be a good thing?
Isn’t it enough that we have had to suffer through this music at the games? Now we can listen to it in the shower, while drinking our morning coffee, at work, in the car …

Seriously, all professional team fight songs are not on my Spotify music shuffle. Some colleges, too – although I like the post third-quarter offerings such as Tom Petty’s “Won’t Back Down” now played at Florida home games. And before you call me the old man yelling at kids to get off his lawn, I never liked those songs even when I was a student in Gainesville or covering the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for The Tampa Tribune. “Hey, Hey, Hey We’re the Buccaneers” made me cringe back in the day, especially when the Bucs were in the throes of those double-digit losing seasons.
Perhaps, I’m wrong. Perhaps, Dolphins fans love “Miami Dolphins No. 1” and listen to it while falling asleep.

According to this week’s release announcing the news about the Dolphins’ fight song:
“Miami Dolphins No. 1” was written, performed and produced by Lee Ofman in 1972 and gained popularity during the Dolphins undefeated season. Upon returning from Los Angeles after completing the perfect season in Super Bowl VII, the team arrived in South Florida with thousands of fans singing the song at Miami International Airport. The tune quickly became one of the most played songs on the radio while thousands of records sold out. In 2014, the song received further acclaim when Billboard named “Miami Dolphins No. 1” the best fight song in the NFL.”
Alas, the Dolphins have not won a playoff game this century and the last time I looked, 2014 was 12 years ago. Trump had never been President.
