Boynton police seek tips after 'deeply loved' Ohio man found dead

Boynton Beach police are investigating the death of an Ohio man whose body was found near a city park, as his family seeks to raise thousands of dollars for his funeral.

Responding to reports of a dead man, police discovered the body of Jordan Scales, 29, at about 7 a.m. April 19 in a wooded area along the 1900 block of South Federal Highway, near the Inlet Inn Motel and Harvey E. Oyer Jr. Park.

Investigators believe someone killed Scales between April 16 and April 19, city police said in a prepared statement April 20. Police described Scales as a transient person living in Boynton Beach.

Man found dead was ‘deeply loved,’ sister says in GoFundMe post

Hilary Lee, who said she is Scales’ sister, started an online fundraiser on the website GoFundMe, seeking $7,000 to cover funeral expenses including travel for his family. She has raised nearly $3,700 as of April 22.

“Jordan was deeply loved,” Lee wrote on GoFundMe. “He was a son, a brother, and a friend who mattered more than he probably ever realized. We are holding onto the memories, the laughter, and the moments that made him who he was — but the pain of losing him so suddenly is something we are still trying to process.”

Police urge anyone with information on Scales’ death to call Detective Brad Leitner at 561-742-6113 or email him at LeitnerB@bbfl.us.

Those interested in contributing to the GoFundMe account can go to the website and search for “Standing with Jordan’s Family During This Tragic Time.”
