After decades of capturing space history on the Space Coast, you might think it would be a chore for the guys behind the cameras at FLORIDA TODAY to land a different angle as rockets rise.
But launch after launch, at all hours of the day and night, the team comes through with inventive ideas for showstopping shots.
In this case, while many of us were still snoozing through ZZZs-time, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket carrying cellular broadband satellites into low-Earth orbit was blasting away from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station on Aug. 5.
And senior photographer Malcolm Denemark was near the water for the 3:49 a.m. liftoff. He came away with a colorful, eye-catching Photo of the Week, one in which boat masts and a booming rocket seemed to line up for him.
“I was looking for a new location for a night launch,” he said.
“I had always wanted to shoot a shot with the stored boats in the marina for a foreground but there was no place for access besides parking on the Beachline.”
Problem solved: “I finally found a safe location to park and got the shot,” Denemark said.
Just one more fast-moving moment in history on a space-centric timeline.
