USC kicker Ryon Sayeri sets Trojans' single-season record in TCU loss

On Tuesday night, USC closed out its 2025 season with a heartbreaking 30-27 overtime loss to TCU in the Alamo Bowl. With the defeat, the Trojans finished their 2025 campaign with a record of 9-4.

Despite the brutal loss, however, there were still some positives to come out of the game for the Trojans. One of them was kicker Ryon Sayeri. After a rough end to the regular season, Sayeri was money against TCU, connecting on all three of his field goal attempts.

With his perfect night, Sayeri broke the USC record for most field goals made in a single season, connecting on 20 attempts in 2025. The previous record was 19, held by Quin Rodriguez in 1990 and Ryan Killeen in 2003.

USC has been playing football since 1888. That means that in nearly 140 years, no Trojans kicker has made for field goals in a season than Sayeri—a truly remarkable accomplishment.

Perhaps the most remarkable part of Sayeri’s season is that he was not supposed to be the starter at the beginning of the year, only taking over the job after preseason All-American Caden Chittenden was dealing with an injury. Regardless of his path there, however, Sayeri emerging as one of the top kickers in the country has been massive for the Trojans, who have struggled at the position in recent seasons.
