Simi Valley fire station joins others across region to remember 9/11

Firefighters in Simi Valley remembered Sept. 11 with a brief ceremony in front of Ventura County Fire Station No. 41 with community members taking part.

This year marks the 24th since the attacks on New York City and Washington, D.C., and Simi Valley’s crew was among dozens more at fire stations across the county who commemorated the day by lowering their flags to half staff at 6:59 a.m. and observing a moment of silence.

In the morning’s early light, firefighters stood at attention while locals bowed their heads. Robert Murphy, his wife Margaret Murphy and members of their family joined in the remembrance. His brother Lt. Raymond E. Murphy of the New York Fire Department died in the attacks.
