Before free agency even began, the Los Angeles Rams made their biggest move of the offseason. They signed Davante Adams to a two-year, $44 million deal after he was released by the New York Jets, bringing him back home to California.
The majority of Rams fans loved the signing, especially knowing Cooper Kupp was on his way out of Los Angeles. There was some skepticism among analysts but for the most part, this decision by the Rams was met with mostly positive reviews.
ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler recently polled NFL executives, scouts and coaches on their favorite moves of the offseason and one personnel evaluator picked the Rams’ signing of Adams.
“Sean [McVay] can get really creative with him, because he’s that classic outside receiver with size that you can also slide inside,” an NFL personnel evaluator said. “It’s a risk because Kupp was so good there for so long. But I see this as a slight upgrade.”
Fowler reported that teams ESPN spoke with “think Los Angeles got good value in Adams at two years and $44 million,” especially considering the Rams can get out of the deal after 2025 by paying $20 million for one year.
It’s not a high-risk signing by Los Angeles, which can save $14 million in cap space by releasing Adams after the season. He might be 32 years old but he’s usually healthy and remains one of the best route runners in football.
He’s a perfect pairing for Puka Nacua and Tutu Atwell, giving Matthew Stafford three different types of receivers to throw to in 2025.
