Patrick Mahomes won’t play vs. Rams in preseason opener

The Los Angeles Rams are set to take on the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead Stadium this Saturday, kicking off their preseason.

We know that both Ty Simpson and Stetson Bennett will play, with Bennett getting the start for the Rams. We also have some clarity on Kansas City’s situation. According to Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen, star quarterback Patrick Mahomes will miss the contest. The decision came from head coach Andy Reid.

Mahomes did play in the Chiefs’ 2025 preseason opener, attempting and completing only one pass.

The Rams will host the Chiefs in regular season action on December 3rd. That will be the first time the Chiefs are visiting the Rams since their historic Monday night battle, where Mahomes and company came up a bit short in a 54-51 shootout that saw over 1,000 total yards of offense.

Aaron Donald recorded two sacks in the contest. If Donald returns and plays in the game, he would be the only defender from the 2018 contest to do so. He would join Tyler Higbee as the only players to feature in both for the Rams.
