Panthers DB to miss Rams game after being suspended for punching 49ers WR

The Carolina Panthers could be without two of their top defensive backs when the Los Angeles Rams come to town on Sunday. Safety Tre’von Moehrig has been suspended one game for punching San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings below the belt following Monday night’s game, the league announced Tuesday.

Additionally, Jaycee Horn exited with a concussion and is uncertain to be ready for Week 13 against the Rams.

Moehrig’s punch was a dirty move and sparked a scuffle after the final whistle, with Jennings losing his temper in the aftermath. Jenning has not been disciplined but the NFL is reviewing the incident for a potential fine on the 49ers wide receiver.

Moehrig has one interception and two passes defensed this season, operating as one of the Panthers’ starting safeties next to Nick Scott, formerly of the Rams. Carolina will need to find a replacement on the back end Sunday, which only makes life easier for the Rams and their high-powered offense.
