A false fire alarm forced an evacuation of the Shasta County Courthouse on Tuesday afternoon.
The alarm started blaring throughout the downtown building around 3 p.m., sending as many as 350 county employees, jurors and other people outdoors onto the sidewalk and patio on Court Street, according to estimates from a Record Searchlight reporter on scene.
A fire engine arrived at the courthouse to check the building soon after the evacuation, she said.

Redding Fire Department staff and SHASCOM dispatchers confirmed the incident was a false alarm, but couldn’t verify why the alarm went off.
