The Los Angeles Lakers are wrapping up an unofficial minicamp that Luka Doncic has been holding and organizing in his native Slovenia over the last few days. It is his first real leadership gesture after LeBron James left earlier this summer, making him the franchise’s unquestioned leader and centerpiece.
It is arguably a much-needed minicamp, given that the Lakers have so many new players on their roster whom they acquired this summer. Several videos of that camp have been released, and fans have noticed that Doncic looks noticeably slim and fit.
The superstar’s svelte physique is getting Lakers fans excited about the upcoming season, as evidenced by some of their comments on X (formerly Twitter).
Last summer, after receiving plenty of criticism for not being in shape, Doncic dropped lots of weight and improved his diet. As a result, he had an MVP-caliber 2025-26 season and averaged 33.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 8.3 assists a game. He won his second scoring title in three years, and he even improved his defense, which had long been a bone of contention.
His season ended prematurely on April 2 due to a hamstring strain, but he has reportedly fully recovered from that injury.
With James gone, it is scary to think how much higher Doncic could take his game this coming season, especially if he improves his shooting efficiency. Last season, he shot 47.6% overall, 36.6% from 3-point range and 78% from the free throw line. He led everyone with 10.1 free throw attempts and 10.8 3-point tries per game.
