Well, that didn’t take long.
Former Michigan basketball point guard Tre Donaldson has found his new home, back in his home state of Florida as he announced on his Instagram on Thursday afternoon that he’ll transfer to Miami (Fla.) for his senior year.
Donaldson, who started all 37 U-M games last season, put up 11.3 points, 4.1 assists and 3.5 rebounds per game in what was the best year of his career. The former Auburn guard transferred to Michigan before the start of the 2024-25 season and has now played in 104 games with 47 starts, and enjoyed a career year in Ann Arbor by shooting 37.5% from long range.

Many thought Donaldson would be the leader of the Wolverines in 2025-26, however that all changed when he posted a broken heart on the story of his IG earlier this week. It seemed to coincide with incoming point guard Elliot Cadeau announcing his plans to transfer from Chapel Hill to Ann Arbor.
By the next day, Donaldson was in the portal and now, less than 72 hours later, he has found his new home.
Donaldson made a number of big plays during his time in the maize and blue: he had game-winning shots against Penn State, Maryland, Wisconsin and UC San Diego all in the final two minutes of the contest and proved to be U-M’s go-to guy down the stretch.
But with Cadeau coming in, L.J. Cason developing late in the season and a five-star McDonald’s All-American on the way in Trey McKenney, the backcourt was getting crowded and it appears Donaldson was not moved by the amount of time that would seemingly be allotted for him.

Now he’s head back south, this time to the ACC, to play in his third conference in four years. The 6-foot-3, 195-pound guard from Tallahassee was a four-star recruit in football coming out of high school and has one year of collegiate eligibility remaining.
