Port Sanilac, MI (September 19th) – Sanilac County Historical Society has operated for six decades since 1964 when they assumed management of the 1872 Loop-Harrison Mansion in Port Sanilac. Since then, the museum mansion has quadrupled in size to an 18 historic building campus on ten acres with several public amenities and events that accomplish the mission statement to promote interest in the history and cultural heritage of Sanilac County.
Our entire Village of 18 buildings (including the Mansion) had been operating on a 1960’s vintage electrical transformer – which has now been relieved by the addition of a new transformer taking off the load of 15 of those buildings. Providing a dedicated electrical grid to stabilize the growth of the museum and allow further growth in the future.
At the end of September, Sanilac County Museum will be sending out letters to past generous supporters asking for contributions that will fund the Sanilac County Historic Village & Museum for general maintenance and budget for future programming that benefits the community. However, the ongoing repair and maintenance – and the costs for labor and materials – even with our dedicated volunteers and donated products – keep going up.
Sanilac County Museum’s growth is only made possible thanks to the consistent generosity of the community and we are asking the public to contribute once again so we can continue to polish this gem in Sanilac County. Your continued support will allow Sanilac Museum to continue providing programming and events for children, families, and seniors of Sanilac County as well as visitors to our community.
