Blue Water Indivisible previously said it would be joining Blue Water Allies to arrange a local protest. As of Friday, Blue Water Allies is no longer involved with the event, according to Barbara Payton, allies’ executive director.

“There is a new movement afoot in the Blue Water Area, and several local residents are inviting others to join them in their effort to start making a difference in the fight for Democracy,” the group announced in a news release.

The Indivisible movement started in 2016 after President Donald Trump won his first term of office.

The Hands Off march is scheduled from 1 to 3 p.m. April 5, beginning at the Huron Lightship in Pine Grove Park and going to Thomas Edison Parkway. A “pre-march” protest is planned from noon to 1 p.m. in Pine Grove Park.

“On Saturday, we are taking to the streets to fight back with a clear message: Hands Off!,” said Ann Austin, one of the group’s organizers. “This mass mobilization day is our message to the world that we do not consent to the destruction of our government, our economy, or our relationships across the world for the benefit of Donald Trump and his billionaire allies.”

Hands Off protests are planned nationwide on Saturday, including in Washington D.C. by organizations and others in response to the first few months of Trump’s second term. During his time in office the president, aided by Elon Musk, has laid off thousands of federal employees in an effort to reduce the size of the federal government, an effort that has faced multiple legal challenges in court.

“Our goal is to introduce the group, its goals and its methods to the community and more importantly, to get people involved. We’re looking for people of all ages to join us,” Austin said.
