(Port Huron, MI April 4th, 2024) Things are gearing up for another great season at Port Huron Museums! Saturday, April 6th, marks opening day for the three satellite sites of Port Huron Museums, and the first day where the public can take advantage of the new free admission policy for the Museums.
Thanks to grants from the City of Port Huron and Blue Water Convention & Visitors Bureau, as well as corporate sponsors the Thomas Edison Depot, Huron Lightship and Carnegie Museum will once again offer free admission. The Fort Gratiot Light Station will also be reopening, with an admission rate of $12 for adults, $25 for families, and 10% off for students and seniors. While the Carnegie Museum keeps regular hours year round, the other three sites are open on weekends in April and May, before transitioning to seven days a week for summer.
“We hope to welcome many tourists this summer, as well as give our local residents a chance to come see our shared cultural heritage at the sites. If you haven’t been to the Museums, this season is a great opportunity to stop in and see the history in your own backyard!” said Andrew Kercher, Community Engagement Manager. “We are particularly excited to bring you an all new Barbie exhibit that will be at the Carnegie from April to October, as well as the culmination of decades of work on the Fort Gratiot Post Hospital, which will open with an all new finished interior and new exhibit later this season.” The Fort Gratiot Post Hospital is located on the grounds of the Fort Gratiot Light Station and is included with admission to that site.
Also returning this year is the Port Huron Museums Historical Trolley Tour series. With at least one tour scheduled nearly every week, there is quite a bit to explore on the Museum’s “Time Machine on Wheels.” Old favorites like Architectural Highlights and Thomas Edison Heritage are returning, and there is an all new addition to the Murder and Mayhem series with “Even More Murder & Mayhem,” bringing the total Murder & Mayhem Tours to three. Another favorite that will be making a return, with
some changes to the lineup is the Prohibition Bar Crawl tour, which is a multi-hour, multi stop tour of all things Prohibition in Port Huron. Tickets for the Trolley Tours can be found on the Museum’s Eventbrite page at https://www.eventbrite.com/manage/collections/649559/events.
