It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Buffalo Wild Wings Girls Prep Athlete of the Week.
This week’s poll features six players – five basketball players and one bowler – who had standout performances during the week of Feb 15-21.
Voting will close at noon on Friday, Feb. 27.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Kelsey Clements, basketball, Trenton
Clements led the Trojans to two victories last week against Wyandotte Roosevelt and Lincoln Park. The freshman forward’s weekly totals include 42 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and four steals.
Emersen Holder, basketball, Warren Regina
The Saddlelites extended their undefeated streak in February after defeating Oxford and New Baltimore Anchor Bay. The sophomore guard had back-to-back 30-point performances, including a 10-rebound double-double in the team’s 73-62 victory over Oxford on Feb. 19.
Aubrin Miller, basketball, White Lake Lakeland
Miller led her team to dominating victories against Birmingham Seaholm and Walled Lake Central. The senior guard started the week off with a 16-point performance in the team’s 54-25 victory against Seaholm on Feb. 16. She closed the week out with 28 points in a 52-9 victory against Walled Lake Central on Thursday.
KeMari Ransome, basketball, Ypsilanti Lincoln
Ransome and the Railsplitters won two of their three games last week, including a 55-13 victory against Westland John Glenn – the team’s largest margin of victory this season. The senior guard averaged 20 points across the three games.
Julia Sovinski, bowling, Dearborn Divine Child
The junior bowler led the Falcons to their third consecutive regional title on Feb. 19, when she recorded scores of 191 and 195 in the individual portion of the day’s event. On eb. 20, Sovinski won the individual regional title, scoring 1075 points across six games played that day.
Avery Zajac, basketball, Tecumseh
The youngest member of the Zajac family on Tecumseh’s girls basketball team had the biggest impact on Feb. 17, during a 70-21 victory against Ypsilanti Lincoln, capturing the program’s third straight Southeastern Conference Championship .The freshman guard had 22 points on 78% shooting, to go with seven rebounds, five steals and three assists.
