One national writer from ESPN has the Spartans listed in his preseason top 10 for next season.
With the announcement of Jeremy Fears Jr. back for another season, Michigan State is widely considered a top 10 team entering next season. That includes Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Borzello released his updated batch of preseason rankings following the recent NBA Draft decisions, with Michigan State coming in at No. 8 nationally. Among Big Ten teams, Michigan State was third on Borzello’s list, behind Michigan (No. 3) and Illinois (No. 4). Only a few spots behind the Spartans was USC at No. 12.
The Spartans return a number of key players, including Fears and forward Coen Carr. Those two will spearhead a lineup that some believe could finally land Tom Izzo his second national championship. It’s clear Michigan State will at least enter next season with expectations of contending for that feat.
