Michigan State basketball is not a top 25 team coming into the season, according to Jeff Borzello of ESPN.
Borzello released his updated preseason top 25 rankings on Tuesday, which had Michigan State just missing the cut. The Spartans were listed in the “Next in line” section of Borzello’s rankings, along with Ohio State, San Diego State, Oregon and Texas.
Depending on the rankings you’re looking at, Michigan State has been listed anywhere from the late teens to outside the top 25 in a number of preseason rankings. So Borzello’s ranking for Michigan State is about on par with what I’ve seen elsewhere. I personally am very interested to see where the Spartans land in the official preseason polls when those are released in the next few weeks as I would anticipate them to be ranked in the both the media and coaches poll.
Michigan State will officially tip off the 2025-26 season on November 3 against Colgate. Prior to that, they’ll play a pair of exhibition games against Bowling Green and UConn.
