Greater Lansing had just two girls basketball team finish as regional champions in 2025.
And DeWiitt will have an opportunity to go for a repeat as the second stage of the Michigan High School Athletic Association state tournament gets going with regionals starting Monday, March 9.
DeWitt is one of nine teams from the area competing in the second stage of the tournament. Here is a look at each of the regionals featuring Greater Lansing teams.
DIVISION 1 AT HOLT
CAAC Blue champion Holt and CAAC Blue runner-up DeWitt are in this stage for a fourth straight season and are on opposite sides of the bracket. DeWitt (19-4) will face Wolverine Conference runner-up Sturgis (20-3) in the opening game of the regional at 5:30 p.m, The lone losses for Sturgis have come to Otsego and Coldwater.
Holt (18-5) is after its second regional title in three seasons and takes on Kalamazoo Central in the second semifinal Monday. Kalamazoo Central (15-7) finished as the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference runner-up.
DIVISION 2 AT TECUMSEH
Haslett had its run in the regional in 2025 end with a loss in the final. The CAAC Red-winning Vikings will try to finish as the regional champion this year and begins its regional journey against host Tecumseh. Haslett has won nine straight since a loss to Rockford. Tecumseh (22-2) was the Southeastern Conference White champion and has won 12 straght.
The other side of the regional features Ann Arbor Gabriel Richard and Parma Western. Gabriel Richard features a pair of Western Michigan commits in twin sisters Ava and Vanessa Rodriguez and is 16-8. Parma Western (17-7) finished as the Interstate 8 champion.
DIVISION 2 AT ALMA
CAAC White champion Portland and Alma (15-6) will try to capture regional titles and will meet in a semifinal Monday. Portland is back in the regional for a second straight season and was stopped by Frankenmuth in the title games in 2025. Alma, which finished third in the Tri-Valley Conference Red, knocked off Freeland for a third time in a district final.
The Portland-Alma winner will face either Frankenmuth or Flint Powers in Wednesday’s final. Frankenmuth (16-8) was the TVC Red champion, while Flint Powers (21-3) was the Saginaw Valley League South champion.
DIVISION 3 AT NEW LOTHROP
Greater Lansing has three teams in this field in CMAC champion Pewamo-Westphalia, Laingsburg, and Stockbridge (18-6) to go along with host New Lothrop. P-W (22-2) and Laingsburg (20-4) will meet for the third time in the opening game. P-W has picked up two wins over Laingsburg over the last three weeks en route to going unbeaten in CMAC play. Laingsburg placed third in the CMAC.
New Lothrop (22-2) was the Mid-Michigan Activities Conference champion and will face Stockbridge, the Big 8 runner-up, in the second game.
DIVISION 4 AT FOWLER
Portland St. Patrick (19-5) is in the regional for a second straight season and opens with a semifinal against Climax-Scotts on Monday. Climax-Scotts (15-6) finished as the South Central Athletic Association runner-up. Portland St. Patrick knocked off reigning Division 4 state champion Fowler in a district final and has won 10 of its last 12 games.
Muskegon Catholic Central (15-5) and Whitmore Lake (17-7) are on the other side of the regional.
