What time do polls close in Michigan on Election Day? What to know about voting hours

Election Day 2025 is here. Voters across Michigan who haven’t already voted early or absentee will be able to cast their ballots at the polls Nov. 4 to decide all manner of elected offices, municipal and school proposals, bond issues and millages.

In Michigan’s largest city, Detroit voters will also cast their ballot for mayor, the city council, city clerk, the board of police commissioners and community advisory council. As of Thursday, Oct. 30, at least 1,600 residents voted early and 44,000 absentee ballots had been received. Detroit currently has 519,000 registered voters, and City Clerk Janice Winfrey said she expects anywhere between 18%-23% of voters will turnout.

What time do polls open in Michigan on Election Day?

Polls open at 7 a.m. local time across Michigan. For 79 of the state’s 83 counties, that’s 7 a.m. Eastern. Polls in Gogebic, Iron, Dickinson and Menominee counties in the Upper Peninsula open at 7 a.m. Central.

What time do polls close in Michigan on Election Day?

Polls close at 8 p.m. local time across Michigan. As long as you are in line by 8 p.m., you are permitted to vote.

Where is my polling location?

You can find your polling location online through the Michigan Voter Information Center at michigan.gov/vote. Enter your name, birth month, birth year and zip code.

What is on my ballot?

You can find a sample ballot through the Michigan Voter Information Center at michigan.gov/vote by selecting the Nov. 4 consolidated election, your county, jurisdiction and precinct. You also can see a sample ballot by searching your polling location.

Do I need an ID to vote in Michigan?

Voters will be asked to show ID when they check in. But if you do not have one, you can still vote: You will be asked to sign an attestation form to do so.

When will Michigan election results come in?

Detroit’s election results are expected to begin filling in around 9 p.m. Winfrey said she is aiming to have them fully counted by 11 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 4. Results for other local municipalities and Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties can vary by location.
