Join the Yardeners of St. Clair Shores for a special spring presentation by Lawrence Law at 7 p.m April 13. Lawrence is a partnership coordinator for MI DNR Urban/Community Forester program and an area resident who attended Michigan State University for his Bachelor of Science in Forestry. His “Know Your Trees” presentation will cover the importance of trees, their health and their place in our community. Attendees will learn about proper tree selection, maintenance and solutions to common tree issues. The event will be held at the St. Clair Shores City Hall, 27600 Jefferson in St. Clair Shores. West Bloomfield Township spring book sale April 10-12

The Friends of the West Bloomfield Township Public Library’s annual Spring Used Book Sale, scheduled April 10-12, offers thousands of gently used books at exceptional prices. Featured is a wide selection of fiction, nonfiction, children’s books, cookbooks, history, biography, Judaica, art, media and more. “Every book purchased helps strengthen the library’s programs and services,” said Roslyn Yerman of the Friends of the Library. “It’s one of the simplest and most enjoyable ways to support literacy and community learning.” A members-only preview is Friday from 7-9 p.m. (memberships can be purchased at the door), 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday. Sunday is bag day, with a bag of books priced at $5. Proceeds fund early literacy programs, children’s and teen events, author visits, technology upgrades and special collections. Charlevoix on ‘Antiques Roadshow’ in April

The wait is over. If you’ve been curious about what kind of goodies were uncovered last summer when the popular “Antiques Roadshow” visited northern Michigan, tune in to PBS April 6 and 13 for answers. The first of three episodes ran March 30, but there’s still two more to go as part of the show’s 30th anniversary tour, which also included stops in Salt Lake City, Savannah, St. Louis and Boothbay, Maine. In one episode, a guest found out that a watch purchased for $300 appraised at $75,000. Find more treasures and additional information at pbs.org.  

Join the Design Club at MDC April 10

Support Gleaners Community Food Bank and get help solving your design dilemmas at the Michigan Design Center at 10 a.m. April 10. Design Club is a bi-annual educational lecture series hosted by Bureau of Interior Design created to foster thoughtful conversation around how people live and design their homes. The first presentation, “Style Mash-Up: Designing Beyond a Fixed Style,” challenges the idea that a home must follow one defined aesthetic. All Things Detroit Day Returns April 12

All Things Detroit Day, the one-day shopping celebration featuring more than 200 local makers and small businesses, returns to Eastern Market April 12. Founder Jennyfer Crawford-Williams has spent more than a decade boosting small businesses in Detroit. The 12th annual event usually draws more than 14,000 shoppers who come shop til they drop among participating woman-owned brands and handmade goods for the home and garden. Makers include returning craftspeople such as Jan Bostwick, who’s been honing her pottery skills for more than 40 years to newcomers such as Canton resident Pam Drake of Paint. Build. Create, earning a name for her signature bags, DIY kits and for curating creative experiences. Others attending include Brijana Bondy of Knotty Macrame Co. in Redford, who is out to prove there’s nothing outdated about the craft of macrame, Dirty Mitten Fizz creative sodas, the interactive Coloring Museum and the Detroit Dog Rescue.
