It’s time to vote for the Detroit Free Press Girls Prep Athlete of the Week for June 1-7.
This week’s poll features four players from last week’s regional and championship tournaments — two softball, one soccer and lacrosse.
Voting will be open until 11:59 a.m. Thursday, June 12. We’ll announce the winner here shortly after the poll closes.
Here are the nominees (listed in alphabetical order by last name):
Shaelyn Perry, South Lyon, lacrosse: The junior midfielder led South Lyon to its first state championship victory after defeating Hartland 6-3 on Saturday, June 7. In the team’s final two games of the season, Perry racked up seven goals and two assists, along with six draws, one ground ball and three caused turnovers.
Natilee Pridemore, Woodhaven, softball: Pridemore pitched two complete games during the softball regional tournament on Saturday and advanced to the state semifinals. The Warriors defeated Downriver rival Allen Park 6-4 in the regional semifinals followed by a 9-0 victory over Cass Tech in the championship game. The senior pitcher gave up four runs but collected 13 strikeouts and finished with a 1.98 ERA.
Miley Skamiera, Huron, soccer: The Chiefs completed back-to-back shutouts last week, defeating Madison Heights Lamphere 6-0 on Wednesday, June 4 and Farmington Hills Mercy 3-0 on Friday, June 6. Skamiera led Huron in scoring during Wednesday’s game with four goals against the Rams and had one assist Friday against the Marlins.
Brooke Williams, Utica Ford, softball: Williams’ performance at the Division 1 regional tournament led the Falcons to clinch the title Saturday. The senior center fielder went 8-for-8 at the plate and had two home runs, seven RBIs and four doubles in the team’s two games against Royal Oak and Port Huron Northern.
