Vote for the Athlete of the Week for Feb. 23-28, presented by Bronson Battle Creek Hospital

BATTLE CREEK — Meet the most recent nominees for Battle Creek Enquirer Athletes of the Week, presented by Bronson Battle Creek Hospital.

Each week during the high school sports season, we will ask our readers to vote for the top performance of the week in all high school sports, taking a look at events from Monday-Saturday.

Make sure to vote early and often for your pick, as the winner will be featured in an Athlete of the Week spotlight story in the Sunday edition of the Enquirer. Fans can vote for their favorite athlete until Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Nominees for Bronson Battle Creek Athlete of the Week

Major Baumann – Lakeview Boys Swimming

Lakeview junior Major Baumann led the Spartans at the Southwestern Michigan Athletic Conference boys swimming championships, by taking second in the 100 freestyle (47.66) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:46.76). Baumann was also the first leg on the third-place 200 freestyle relay and the first leg on the third-place 400 freestyle relay.

Addi Dzwik – St. Philip Girls Basketball

St. Philip’s Addi Dzwik became the all-time career leader for points at her school, breaking the record of 1,174 held by 2010 graduate Lena Oliver. Dzwik had 21 points in a win over Tekonsha to get to 1,175 career points, setting the mark in just three years in her junior season.

Ryan Robinson – Marshall Boys Swimming

Ryan Robinson led Marshall at the Southwestern & Central Conference Championships by taking second in the 100 backstroke (57.82) and third in the 100 butterfly (55.47). Robinson was also part of the all-conference 200 medley relay that took eighth and the 400 relay team that took fourth.

Matthew Waito – Marshall Boys Basketball

Matthew Waito helped Marshall win a second straight Division 2 district championship with a gritty performance in the finals in a 59-56 win over Pennfield. Waito had 11 points and eight assists in directing the offense. Waito also had 14 points, seven assists and two teals in a district semifinal win over Parma Western.

Nominees for Bronson Battle Creek Athlete of the Week
