The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce has long believed that strong schools are foundational to a strong economy. That belief is why we support the Ingham Intermediate School District Special Education Facilities Bond proposal on the May ballot.
At its core, this proposal is about doing the right thing. Every child deserves facilities that are safe, accessible, modern, and designed to meet their unique needs. Students receiving special education services require environments that support mobility, sensory needs, safety, and specialized instruction. These facilities are not a luxury. They are essential.
The Ingham ISD has been a leader in special education services for decades. This bond proposal would modernize aging facilities and ensure that students and educators have the environments they need to succeed.
As a business organization, we view education as long term economic development. Today’s students are tomorrow’s workforce, entrepreneurs, and community leaders. When we invest in education, we invest in the future strength of our region.
At the same time, we recognize the pressures facing taxpayers. Ingham County already has 11 special property tax millages in place. That reality matters. As a Chamber, we believe it is important to continually review the overall tax burden and prioritize essential needs over wants to keep Ingham County an affordable place to live, work, and thrive.
After careful consideration, we believe this proposal rises to the level of need. Providing safe, accessible, and appropriate facilities for students receiving special education services is not optional. It is a fundamental responsibility. We owe it to these children, their families, the teachers and support staff who serve them, and to the broader community that depends on an inclusive and prepared workforce.
The Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce has consistently supported school bond proposals that strengthen educational outcomes and prepare the next generation. This bond is aligned with that long standing commitment.
Supporting this proposal is about values, opportunity, and ensuring that every child in our community has the foundation they deserve.
