UM Health-Sparrow earns highest rating for maternity care in new report

LANSING – University of Michigan Health-Sparrow ranked among the nation’s best for maternity care, according to a new report from U.S. News & World Report.

The new report named the Lansing hospital as high performing, the highest ranking U.S. World & News Report gives in procedural rankings.

UM Health-Sparrow’s birthing center sees around 3,500 births annually, according to a statement from hospital officials.

According to the U.S. World & News website, the procedures and conditions rating “focus on specific, common procedures and conditions,” rather than focusing on complex, challenging cases.

The 2026 report is intendent to “aid parents-to-be” to find the best hospitals for uncomplicated pregnancies.

According to the report methodology, 495 of the 901 hospitals that submitted their data for review earned the high performing status.

UM Health-Sparrow was one of 11 in Michigan earning the high performing rating. The other hospitals recognized were Corewell Health Beaumont Grosse Pointe Hospital, Corewell Health Beaumont Troy Hospital, Corewell Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids, Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital, Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, Corewell Health Pennock Hospital in Hastings, Corewell Health Wayne Hospital, MyMichigan Medical Center Sault, Trinity Health Grand Rapids Hospital and Trinity Health Oakland Hospital in Pontiac.

Ten Michigan hospitals were also named among 147 recognized for offering care in “what might otherwise become maternity care deserts,” working as the only facilities offering maternity care, including Trinity Health Muskegon Hospital, MyMichigan Medical Center Alma, Corewell Health Lakeland Hospitals in Saint Joseph, Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital, Corewell Health Gerber Hospital in Fremont, Corewell Health Pennock Hospital in Hastings, Henry Ford Jackson Hospital, Corewell Health Ludington Hospital, Memorial Healthcare in Owosso and MyMichigan Medical Center Sault.
