Tulip Time '26 to include rare collection of Dutch costumes, artifacts

Organizers are unveiling a rare collection of Dutch costumes and artifacts during Tulip Time 2026.

“Dutch Life on Display” will be exhibited at the Van Raalte Farmhouse, 1076 E. 16th St. — according to a community announcement. The collection includes 20 costumes and artifacts from the early 1900s and was recently acquired from a private museum in the Netherlands, curated by Jolanda van den Berg.

The collection represents everyday Dutch life across four provinces: Overijssel, Zeeland, Friesland and Noord-Holland.

“Each costume reflects the regional identity, craftsmanship and traditions of the Netherlands … from intricate textiles and symbolic garments to the subtle distinctions that signaled social status, marital state and local heritage,” according to the announcement.

The Van Raalte Farmhouse was constructed by Benjamin Van Raalte, son of Albertus C. Van Raalte, the founder of Holland. The farmhouse symbolizes the community’s Dutch heritage.

“This exhibition brings history to life in a deeply immersive and visual way,” wrote Tulip Time Executive Director Gwen Auwerda. “We are honored to preserve and share these remarkable pieces, allowing visitors to step into the daily lives of the Dutch people who shaped our community’s roots.”

The exhibit is open April 27-May 9. The cost for entry is $10 per person. Learn more at tuliptime.com.
