Michigan hockey’s push for a national champion may now have the boost it needs.
Landon DuPont, the projected No. 1 pick in the 2027 NHL Draft, reportedly has committed to Michigan over Michigan State, Denver and Minnesota. The news was first reported Wednesday by Cam Robinson, a senior director at Elite Prospects.
Dupont, according to reports, visited Michigan and Michigan State last week. The 17-year-old played the last two seasons with the Everett Silvertips in the Western Hockey League. In 63 games, he had 18 goals and 55 assists.
Michigan, which has not won a hockey national championship since 1998, lost 4-3 in double overtime to Denver in the Frozen Four semifinals last April. This was the third time in four years under Brandon Naurato, who just completed his fourth season, the Wolverines have made the Frozen Four, and fourth time in the last five seasons overall.
Michigan, the reigning Big Ten Tournament champion, finished the season 31-8-1.
