BRIGHTON — There’s a new carryout-only sandwich shop coming to downtown Brighton.
The Oregano Deli and Specialty Market will carry an assortment of deli sandwiches and specialty products inside the former Diamond Factory at 132 W. Main Street. According to owner Brandon Shouneyia, currently based in Livonia, a ribbon cutting is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sept. 24.
Shouneyia has an established culinary career in Metro Detroit. He’s spent the past eight years as a co-owner and manager of the Jagged Fork, a breakfast and lunch restaurant with six locations, in West Bloomfield. However, he eventually decided to embark on his own, and jumped at the chance when space opened up in downtown Brighton.
“I wanted to try something different and on a smaller scale, and it kind of brought me here,” Shouneyia told The Daily.
The decision to open a deli was inspired by his upbringing, including teenage years helping run the deli at his family’s gourmet market. Shouneyia noted he’s trying to incorporate elements of his heritage into his products.
“I’m Chaldean and my wife is Greek and Italian, so we’re combining all three and trying to give a fresh, quality product,” he told The Daily.
The menu will span 10-15 different sandwiches and a selection of pre-packaged salads. All sandwiches will be made on schiacciata, a Tuscan flatbread, which Shouneyia plans to source daily from a bakery in Ecorse, Michigan.
“All the meats are going to be imported,” he said. “It’s a real premium lunch meat, as well as the cheeses.”
In addition to fresh deli options, Shouneyia plans to stock a variety of gourmet cheeses, vinegars, oils and jams—“mostly all natural and organic stuff.”
The business owner has already set his sights on possible expansion in the future, with eyes on Howell, Pinckney, Wixom and Milford.
