Fifth-grade teacher Stacey Rohlan was recently recognized as The Daily Telegram’s Amazing Teacher of the Month.
Rohlan, a teacher at Blissfield Community Schools, was nominated for her contributions to education. She moved frequently during childhood, from Hillsdale County to Washington DC to Texas, before settling in Blissfield during her own fifth-grade year.
According to Rohlan, teaching felt like a natural path after spending years in her mother’s classroom.
“Teaching runs in my family,” she told LocaliQ, which operates the contest for The Daily Telegram. “My grandmother, mother and uncle are all educators.”
Rohlan obtained her teaching degree from Siena Heights University in 2007, according to LocaliQ, and later earned a master’s degree in reading from Kaplan University. She began teaching at Waldron Area Schools in 2009, then returned to Blissfield to teach fifth grade.
“To me, teaching isn’t just a profession,” she said. “It’s part of who I am.”
LocaliQ notes that Rohlan helps struggling readers improve as a Student Success Specialist. She has dedicated 25 years to on-call firefighting with the Palmyra Township Fire Department. She’s also worked as an EMS Coordinator and Billing Specialist.
