Seth and Stephanie Perrin have announced an opening date for Oliver & Co. Bookstore — a much-anticipated addition to downtown Howell.
The couple shared via social media the business’ grand opening will begin at 10 a.m. June 6 in the former Retro-A-Go-Go at 212 S. Michigan Ave.
Howell residents have craved a mom-and-pop downtown bookshop since the aughts closure of Aria Booksellers.
The Perrins have redesigned the space from the ground up, including the expected shelves and shelves of books, comfortable spaces to sit, and other tchotchkes for sale.
The couple had originally considered a cafe space, but opted against the addition after receiving cost estimates. Instead, the bookstore will carry pre-packaged pastries and other cold bottled or canned drinks. Stephanie plans to stock the shop with unique offerings, like old fashioned candy and products from Cherry Republic.
The store also invites customers to bring their own snacks from nearby eateries.
Despite the change, the couple emphasized the business will be a “third space” for residents — somewhere to gather and relax that isn’t work or home.
The store’s hours of operation will be 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Tuesdays-Thursdays, 10 a.m.-7 p.m. Fridays, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Sundays. Customers can expect special events to begin in July.
