Teen charged with kidnapping after vehicle stolen with baby inside

A teenager who allegedly stole a car with a 1-year-old child in the backseat has been charged with multiple felonies.

Port Huron Assistant Police Chief Jeremy Young announced in a statement the boy was charged with kidnapping – child enticement, unlawful imprisonment, unlawful driving away of a motor vehicle, third-degree fleeing and eluding and driving a motor vehicle with a revoked or suspended license.

The charges stem from an incident on Thursday, July 17, when police said the suspect stole a vehicle near the intersection of Hancock Street and Pine Grove Avenue about 9 p.m. A 1-year-old child was in the backseat when it was stolen.

Police said the teen fled when a Marysville Police Department officer attempted a traffic stop and a high-speed chase ensued, with speeds reaching close to 100 miles per hour. The chase ended when the vehicle crashed into parked cars in Chesterfield Township. The baby was unharmed.

Because the criminal case involves a juvenile, details about the case, including the suspect’s name and hearing dates are not be available.
