At least four people in Marinette and Menominee counties overdosed, and one person died on Monday, July 28, after purchasing cocaine in the area, according to the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said individuals have been arrested in connection to the investigation, but more of the tainted drugs may have been distributed before the arrests, Sheriff Darrin Kudwa said in a Tuesday news release.
Police did not say how the drugs were adulterated.
The sheriff’s office said a joint investigation with Michigan and Wisconsin law enforcement agencies is continuing.
Marinette County, in northern Wisconsin, and Menominee County, in the U.P., are border communities on each side of the Menominee River. The Marinette County Sheriff’s Office shared the same press release, but offered no additional details.
“Anyone with information related to these incidents are asked to contact the Menominee County Sheriff’s Office via phone at 906-863-4441,” the news release says. “Tips can also be submitted anonymously via the Crime Stoppers of Marinette and Menominee County website or the P3 Tips app.”
