Suspect accused of evading parole arrested after fleeing crash in Livingston County

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man who allegedly fled the scene of a crash Oct. 21 in Deerfield Township.

The suspect is accused of absconding parole for previous convictions of operating while intoxicated and homicide, and is reportedly being charged with his seventh offense of operating under the influence of liquor or drugs, according to LCSO.

Deputies were dispatched around 1:40 p.m. Oct. 21 to a crash at the intersection of North Latson Road and East Cohoctah Road. Upon arrival, they learned the driver of one of the vehicles involved, a 2005 GMC Yukon, fled the scene on foot after causing the crash.

Witnesses told deputies they saw a heavy-set man, roughly 50 years old, fleeing eastbound into a nearby cornfield, according to LCSO. Deputies began searching for the suspect, using K-9 units and drones.

Officers located the suspect in a wooded area northwest of the crash site, according to the release. He was taken into custody without further incident and lodged at the Livingston County Jail.

LCSO expects the man to be formally charged with possession of methamphetamine, operating under the influence of liquor or drugs — seventh offense, driving with a suspended or revoked license, open alcohol in a motor vehicle, parole absconding and failure to yield.

The suspect’s name won’t be released until he’s been arraigned.

The other driver, a 26-year-old Fowlerville woman, was taken by Livingston County EMS to Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc with non-life-threatening injuries.
