Storms are moving into southwest Michigan this afternoon and are expected to move across the state.
Current radar shows storms entering on the west side of the state and sweeping southeast, exiting through the lower Thumb and metro Detroit this evening, according to the National Weather Service.
Officials have issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Berrien, Branch, Hillsdale, St. Joseph and Cass counties located in the southwest corner of the state.

Tornadoes, large hail, localized flooding, 60 mph wind gusts, lightning are the possible threats.
“A line of storms may impact west Michigan south of I 96 between Noon to 6 pm (Aug. 11). The best chance will be along and south of the I 94 corridor. All storms may contain damaging winds and lightning. Heavy downpours are expected and minor flooding is possible,” the Grand Rapids NWS said on X on Aug. 11.
The storms are expected to reach southeast Michigan as early as 1 p.m., though the most likely storm window is from 3-8 p.m., the Detroit NWS said.
Residents are urged to stay updated on forecasts on Tuesday, Aug. 11, if storms intensify or change direction, and to ensure multiple ways of receiving weather alerts.
