The chances of severe weather increase Wednesday in Metro Detroit, although scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible Monday and Tuesday, as well, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service forecast also said isolated severe storms are possible on Tuesday, with heavy rain and an increased risk of severe storms on Wednesday and into Thursday.
Flooding risk is highest in urban areas on Wednesday night, the NWS said.
NWS officials predict cool temperatures — ranging from 69 to 74 degrees — and partly cloudy skies across the region on Monday.
Detroit’s high temperature is expected to reach 73 on Monday. The city’s average monthly high temperature in June is 79.7.
But the agency forecasts a marginal risk of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms for southeast Michigan in the afternoon and evening on Tuesday. Meteorologists said isolated strong to severe storms are possible, with damaging wind gusts and large hail the main threats.
For Wednesday, NWS officials predict a marginal to slight risk of widespread showers and storms in the afternoon. Isolated to scattered storms may be strong to severe, and they could produce heavy rainfall, with meteorologists warning the downpours could produce at least an inch to more than 2 inches of precipitation. Those showers and storms could linger until Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the region’s high temperatures on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday should stay near those seen on Monday.
