Sept. 26: Who made the list for The Sentinel's Students of the Week?

Another week, another collection of exceptional local students.

Each week, high school principals and staffers around Holland share their nominees with The Sentinel. We share those honorees online Fridays and in print Sundays.

This week’s students were recognized for their leadership, involvement in athletics and extracurricular activities, excelling in rigorous course loads and showing respect in their school community.

Austin Ulberg, Zeeland West High School

Austin is a leader in the hallways and in Dux athletic programs. He’s a captain and OK Conference champion wrestler, plays football and is a part of other organizations on campus. Austin holds nearly a 3.7 GPA and is a great representative for the Dux and the W.E.S.T. Way.

Riley Hart, Holland Christian High School

Riley Hart is an excellent example of maturity, insight and responsibility. He’s a team player, even when injured on the cross-country team, who simply makes everyone else around him feel welcomed and heard. He sets the bar high for what thoughtful and humble servant leadership looks like.

Riley is a joy in class, and a strong writer, speaker and thinker. He’s kind spirited with a keen sense of humor, full of energy, and enjoys the little moments in class. He’s encouraging to his classmates and asks insightful questions, adding thoughtful commentary to class discussions. He sings in Holland Christian’s Living Hope, and we are grateful for his active participation in chapel worship.

Harper Schoon-Tanis, Holland High School

Holland High School is proud to recognize Harper Schoon-Tanis as our Student of the Week. Harper maintains an impressive 4.4 GPA while pursuing a rigorous course schedule that includes AP classes and dual enrollment. In AP Literature and Composition, her insightful analysis and strong writing skills consistently stand out.

Beyond academics, Harper is a talented artist whose creativity and originality shine through in her work. She’s also a dedicated member of the cross-country team and is actively involved in Student Senate, highlighting her leadership and commitment to the school community. Harper’s combination of intellect, artistry, athletics and extracurricular involvement makes her a well-rounded and inspiring student, and we are proud to celebrate her achievements.

Anyah Braddock, Fennville High School

Anyah continues to be a steady leader for FHS. She challenges herself academically by taking college and AP courses while leading in activities like student council. Anyah is respectful to her peers, the adults around her, and the community she lives in.

Anyah is devoted to Trio Upward Bound, a college preparatory program, and shows this dedication by taking additional classes at Hope College in the summer. She enjoys the Fenntastics Choir and her science classes, and loves the school and her teachers because they’ve helped her see the many opportunities she has for her future.

Ian Craner, Zeeland East High School

Ian Craner is one of the most talented technology students at ZEHS. Ian excels in Video Game Design and is also taking AP Computer Science. The tremendous work ethic displayed on a daily basis sets this student apart from peers. Ian shines in our Zeeland High Players, juggling multiple roles and responsibilities, including being a skilled technician.
