Sedo's Premium Ice Cream opens in Milford with 32 tempting flavors

MILFORD — Just in time for summer, Sedo’s Premium Ice Cream is opening downtown.

The shop at 120 E. Liberty St. will be open year-round and is inviting ice cream lovers in for a taste on Ladies’ Night, April 30, with a grand opening set for May 2, in which the first 50 people in line get a free scoop.

“We hope to be the ice cream destination of Milford and the dessert mecca of this area,” said Samantha Stork, co-owner of the shop with her husband, Mitchell Stork.

Samantha and Mitchell, Commerce Township residents and parents of two little girls, have been coming to Milford for a decade and say it was their dream to have an ice cream shop in the iconic downtown.

The store offers 32 rotating flavors of rich, decadent ice cream obtained from The Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream Co. in the nation’s dairy capital, Madison, Wisc. Samantha explains that the super premium ice cream has a much higher butter fat content than traditional ice cream, so high that “it borders on being gelato.”

The density and creaminess makes it difficult to scoop and she adds that it’s worth the sore arm because it’s “so good.”

Among the flavors the shop is starting with are popular varieties with fun names including “Me Want Cookie,” sugar cookie ice cream with Oreos and cookie dough chunks; “Exhausted Parent,” bourbon-spiked espresso ice cream with bittersweet chocolate chunks; and “This $&@! Just Got Serious,” an award-winning smooth salted caramel ice cream with sea salt fudge and cashews.

Sedo’s also has all the traditional flavors ice cream connoisseurs would expect, as well as Italian ices and vegan, dairy-free and gluten-free options that Samantha says are so good her Dad couldn’t tell the difference between them and full dairy ice cream.

The shop is named in honor of Samantha’s father, as Sedo means “grandfather” in Arabic. He previously owned his own ice cream shop.

Samantha, who managed an ice cream shop in Northville for a time after graduating college and before attending the police academy, never expected to own a shop herself. However, she would would soon learn the life of a police officer was not the one she wanted and she pursued a sweeter path.

Samantha and Mitchell, who is a full-time accountant, opened their first Sedo’s location in the West Village in Detroit in 2023. They have since closed it to focus on their new Milford shop, the walls of which are adorned with art that has been retouched to pay homage to ice cream.

Mitchell notes that “every little thing is taking a risk,” but the couple hopes that Sedo’s Premium Ice Cream is a sweet success in Milford, especially with additions including ice cream cakes, a make-your-own sundae option with 20 toppings and sauces to choose from, ice cream nachos, milkshakes, malts, floats and more, although the ice cream is so exceptional “it stands on its own.”

“We’re excited to be part of the community,” Mitchell said.

Sedo’s Premium Ice Cream, 120 E. Liberty St., Milford, is open from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday; noon to 9 p.m., Tuesday through Thursday; noon to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday; and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday.
