Winter weather will could make driving dicey this weekend across Michigan, with snow and freezing rain in the forecast.
“A few flurries are possible early Saturday morning, followed by the potential for accumulating snow on Sunday. Temperatures hold below normal,” the Detroit National Weather Service office said on X on Dec. 5.

Northern Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula are expected to see up to 6 inches of snow through Friday, Dec. 5. And snow is forecast to continue through the weekend statewide, with the most accumulating along Lake Michigan’s northern shoreline and the eastern UP.
The NWS’s Precipitation Portal estimates 6-9 inches of snow around Pellston and 5-8 around Grand Marais in the UP by Monday morning, Dec. 8.
Farther south, Michiganders may have to deal with freezing rain.
Freezing drizzle is expected Saturday morning, Dec. 6, across much of southern Michigan, according to the NWS hazardous weather outlook.
“There is a chance for light snow mixed with a low chance for periodic freezing drizzle late tonight through Saturday morning. A dusting of snowfall will be possible with any snow accumulation,” the weather service said.
In the Lower Peninsula, temperatures will range in the 20s to 30s during the day, with lows in the 20s to below zero. Coldwater in southwest Michigan is predicted to see the chilliest low at minus 1 Sunday night, Dec. 7.
Temperatures will be cooler in the UP ranging in the teens to 20s, with lows in teens to single digits.

“Accumulating snow expected to continue across eastern Upper Michigan and the Straits region of northern Lower Michigan (Friday),” the NWS said. “Gusty southwest winds will result in considerable blowing and drifting snow. See ongoing Winter Weather Advisory for details. Additional 1-3 inches of widespread light to moderate snow expected tonight over NW lower.”
