Two local female hockey players made the top-10 list of highest-paid players in the Professional Women’s Hockey League.
According to the PWHL Players Association, which released the salaries of all players from the 2025-2026 season on Tuesday, Sault Ste. Marie’s Abby Roque made $116,669 for the Walter Cup-champion Montreal Victoire and Farmington Hills’ Megan Keller earned $105,000 for the Boston Fleet, which tied Montreal for first place in the regular season with 62 points in 30 games.
Emily Clark of the Ottawa Charge led the league at 126,090, Roque was fourth, and Keller was ninth. All PWHL salary amounts are in U.S. dollars and don’t factor in any bonuses that players may receive.
Detroit will join the league in 2026-2027 along with expansion teams in Las Vegas, Hamilton and San Jose.
Here are the salaries of the other nine local PWHL players:
Mellissa Channell-Watkins (Plymouth), Vancouver: $58,000
Shiann Darkangelo (Brighton), Montreal: $52,000
Taylor Girard (Macomb Township), New York: $50,000
Anna Segedi (Commerce Township), Vancouver: $45,000
Elle Hartje (Detroit), New York: $43,500
Riley Brengman (China Township), Boston: $40,000
Amanda Thiele (Milford), Boston: $38,667
Callie Shanahan (Commerce Township), New York: $38,000
Kaley Doyle (Livonia), New York: $37,667
Ten players earned more than $100,000 and 97 players made less than $50,000, including 17 players who earned league-minimum contracts of $37,131, a figure that increases by three per cent each season.
Each team carries 23 players on the active roster with an additional three players on reserve.
With Detroit and three other expansion teams, the PWHL will need roughly 100 new players to fill the 92 new roster spots and 12 additional reserve positions across the league.
