The Michigan State Police on Tuesday, Aug. 11, announced that investigators had identified the remains of a man found along the shore of Lake Huron in November 2025.
“Thanks to valuable community tips and a confirmed DNA match, investigators have successfully identified the individual. Out of respect for the family, his name will not be released publicly,” the MSP Sixth District said Tuesday night on X.
Earlier this year, the police renewed a request for help from the public in identifying the man and released a sketch of what he looked like.
“This case highlights the strong communication and teamwork among MSP personnel and our partners,” MSP Lt. Ashley Miller said on X Tuesday. “The dedication shown by everyone involved, along with assistance from community members, made it possible to bring answers to this individual’s loved ones.”
Police did not provide a city of residence or age or provide any information about how long they believe the man was dead before being found or how he may have come to be near Lake Huron.
“Detectives have been actively working to identify this individual,” the MSP Seventh District said on X on July 16.
With assistance from the Michigan State University Anthropology Laboratory and the MSP Forensic Art Unit, a sketch of what the man is believed to look like was released. The black-and-white sketch showed a heavy-set man with thick eyebrows and a receding hairline. He had a longer nose and prominent chin.
The man’s body was found Nov. 26, 2025, after troopers from the MSP Alpena Post were dispatched to a home on Raven Drive in Presque Isle County’s Ocqueoc Township where the man’s body was found on the shore of Lake Huron.
At the time he was discovered, police said, the man was wearing a white T-shirt with word “Allegedly” in colorful letters and an ostrich on the front, a black North Face jacket, American Eagle undergarments with an aquatic print, and blue jeans.
The man was about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and 165 pounds.
Police said the man could have been dead for three months up to three years.
