Pinckney shifts marijuana license rules to clear path for two projects

Pinckney Village Council voted to shift marijuana license rules during a special meeting Feb. 19, essentially clearing the way for two new projects.

For months, officials struggled to award the single adult-use marijuana retailer license available, after the only active licenseholder — The Means Project at the former Pinckney Elementary School — expired in August. There are remaining licenses for a grower and transporter.

At first, the municipality had two micro-licenses and one retail license available, but councilmembers voted to increase the number of retail licenses to two and decrease the number of micro-licenses by one, retaining the total of three.

Essence holds the village’s micro-business license for a storefront at 1268 E. M-36. The family behind that project was also interested in the marijuana retailer license for a development under the name 759 East Pinconning LLC. The businesses would share an access drive, parking area and dumpster enclosure, according to meeting documents.

Another developer, QPS Michigan Holdings LLC, was interested in the retail license for an adult-use marijuana retail shop in the former Putnam Township Fire Station as part of C3 Industries.

The licenses now come with a requirement that construction begin within six months, or applicants will face automatic expiration and revocation. They are expected to be awarded during an upcoming meeting.
