A 33-year-old pedestrian was killed in commuter train accident Wednesday afternoon, Ferndale police said.
Officers were called to East Nine Mile Road near Hilton at about 1:40 p.m. for a report of a pedestrian crash involving a commuter train, Ferndale police said on Facebook. The victim was found unresponsive and aid was rendered. Paramedics transported the victim to the hospital, where they were pronounced dead.
An initial investigation found the railroad crossing warning system and gates were operating properly, police said. An investigation continues.
The area of East Nine Mile from Paxton to Hilton initially was closed after the crash. It reopened around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
“The Ferndale Police Department extends its deepest condolences to the victim’s family and friends during this difficult time,” the post said.
