More than 2 feet of snow piled up in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula over the weekend, and the snow-shoveling won’t stop as another round of snow is predicted early this week.
The central-to-western U.P. saw a wide range of snow, from 1-32 inches from Feb. 21-22, according to the National Weather Service’s local snowfall reports. Mount Arvon, located in the central U.P. northwest of Marquette, saw the highest accumulation at 32 inches. Areas near L’Anse also saw heavy snow, 16.5 inches.
As of Monday, Feb. 23, lake-effect snow develops in the central U.P., creating slick roads, and a winter weather advisory is in place for a clipper system arriving Tuesday morning, Feb. 24.
“Blustery today (Feb. 23) with lake effect snow and blowing snow diminishing. Another system will bring widespread accumulating snow Tuesday (Feb. 24), tapering to lake effect snow Tuesday night into Wednesday (Feb. 25),” the Marquette NWS said on X on Feb. 23. “A warming trend is expected for the end of the week.”
From 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, to 7 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 25, an additional 1-9.5 inches are forecast to fall statewide. The eastern U.P. and western U.P. are expected to see the heaviest accumulations at 5-9.5 inches, according to the NWS Probabilistic Precipitation Portal.
