The Ohio State Fair may have just wrapped up, but it’s still in headlines.
Because of a new USA TODAY 10Best Readers’ Choice Awards ranking, the Ohio State Fair is among some of the best state fairs in the nation.
The fair is 10th on the list of best state fairs, alongside the state fairs of Minnesota, Iowa, Texas and Wisconsin, according to USA TODAY.
State fairs are an iconic American tradition that initially began as a showcase of agriculture and livestock. Now, many states host their own state fairs unique to the community’s traditions and history.
USA TODAY praised the Ohio State Fair for its wide appeal that draws nearly one million guests to the fairgrounds each year. This year, the fair ran from July 23 to Aug. 3.
“The fair has come a long way since it started in 1850 on about 10 acres of grass with cattle tied to a railing,” the article read.

Now on about 360 acres of land, the 12-day fair’s unique appeal to Ohio-only features — such as livestock shows, peculiar eats and the iconic butter cow — is the event to look forward to each summer.
Not to mention, the lineup of popular music performances, carnival rides and interactive displays also promises better-than-average fair activities.
From a tattoo competition, LEGO train display, camel ride for kids and one of the world’s longest portable sky rides, the variety of attractions and things to do gives the Ohio State Fair enough reason to be a national favorite among many.
