New trailer for 'The Paper' shows an 'Office' character working in Toledo

Oscar Martinez, formerly employed by paper company Dunder-Mifflin’s satellite office in Scranton, Pennsylvania, is now working in Toledo, a short drive away from Detroit.

And he’s not happy.

The character played by Oscar Nunez in the classic NBC sitcom “The Office” makes a memorable appearance in a new trailer for “The Paper,” a mockumentary for Peacock that arrives Sept. 4.

The premise is that the same small documentary crew that followed Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and his staff around for nine seasons has a new subject to chronicle, the quirky staff of the Toledo Truth Teller, a newspaper set in the Ohio city that is Michigan’s nearby neighbor to the south.

Domhnall Gleeson (the Irish actor known for films like “Ex Machina” and “Brooklyn”) plays Ned Sampson, the paper’s idealistic new editor who admits that the Truth Teller “sucks,” but also vows to improve its content.

Ned’s goal is to turn his staff of volunteer reporters, whose writing credentials include tweeting and being part of a group text, into a team of actual journalists.

Oscar makes his entrance near the end of the trailer, shocked to see he’s about to be trailed by the documentary crew for the second time in his career. “I’m not agreeing to any of this!” he shouts, as he begins swearing in an effort to ruin his scenes.

Also in the cast are Sabrina Impacciatore (HBO’s “The White Lotus”), comedian Alex Edelman (the HBO Max comedy special “Just for Us”), Chelsea Frei (Fox’s “Animal Control”) and more.

“The Paper” is created and executive produced by Daniels (“The Office”) and Michael Koman (Comedy Central’s “Nathan for You”).

We’re not sure what job Oscar has in “The Paper,” but he was an accountant in “The Office.” A numbers cruncher for a legacy media site? No wonder he is cranky.
