One of the key players on the Spartans defensive line missed last week’s game at Indiana despite not being hurt. But, it was for a good reason — he became a father.
Michigan State defensive lineman Grady Kelly and his wife welcomed a new baby into the world this past weekend, causing him to miss the Spartans’ loss at Indiana. Kelly was a mysteriously listed as out in last week’s availability report, and now we know the reasoning thanks to a post on social media from Kenny Jordan of SpartanMag.

Per that same post from Jordan, Kelly is expected to be back for the Spartans this week against rival Michigan.
Kelly is in his first season with the Spartans after transferring from Florida State in the winter portal window. He has appeared in all of Michigan State’s other games this season, recording 11 tackles (2.5 for loss) and 0.5 sack. He also has defended one pass and recovered a fumble.
Getting back Kelly this week will surely help the Spartans up front on the defensive side of the ball, which will be a critical area of concern against a solid Wolverines offensive line. Kickoff for this week’s matchup between Michigan and Michigan State is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET, with the game set to be televised on NBC.
