Motorcyclist in critical condition after Labor Day crash in Oakland County

A Pontiac motorcyclist is in critical condition after a Labor Day crash at the M-59 and Chippewa Road intersection in the city of Pontiac, according to police.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2018 Buick Regal driven by a 54-year-old Pontiac resident was attempting to turn southbound onto Chippewa Street while traveling on M-59, also known as Huron Street, about 5 p.m., according to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

The driver turned in front of a 2005 Suzuki GSX motorcycle operated by a 31-year-old Pontiac resident traveling eastbound on Huron Street. The motorcyclist was thrown from his vehicle and landed in the roadway. He was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital.

The Buick driver was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction unit with technical assistance from the Sheriff’s Office Drone Unit.

It was the second serious crash in Pontiac over the Labor Day weekend. On Friday, Aug. 29, a crash left a parent and two children in a vehicle stopped a red light in Pontiac dead, with a third child in the car in serious condition.
